Watch Your Language
A knock rattled me from a slow wake at my hotel. I opened the door to a cheery cleaner who asked, “do you need servicing today?” I giggled to myself, wondering if she had mistaken me for a horse, in my sleepy state.
Dining with a client, the waitress appeared and, wanting to take our order, asked, “wadda yooos want?”
Sitting in the reception area of a professional office suite in the heart of Brisbane, I overheard the two young administration assistants conversing—there were “f**##s” flying everywhere.
Language is powerful, and memorable.
For those who regularly interact with customers, be mindful, in the coming days, of what you say and how you say it and its impact on others. Does it connect, and if not, where are the disconnection points?
And for those who manage people at the customer interface, listen in to their conversations occasionally and observe their verbal and non-verbal language. Find opportunities to improve clarity and professionalism.
Language. It has the power to pull people in, or push them away, and definitely leaves a lasting impression.
