How do you feel about this?
Have you ever found yourself exasperated after telling someone—for what seems ages—to make changes in their work and no change has been forthcoming?
Early in my coaching career, I experienced this too until I learned to acknowledge the lack of progress and then ask, ‘how do you feel about the changes we’re working on?’ The responses were insightful.
I learned that there’s always something blocking the change and the reasons are plentiful. Once the block is addressed, change is more likely to transpire and often rapidly.
I’ve also realised that for some, it’s best to recommend they seek professional help, dependant on their condition.
If you’ve been asking for certain actions or changes from your people and they haven’t been forthcoming, try asking: ‘How do you feel about what I’ve been asking?’ ‘Is there anything getting in the way of you actioning it?’ ‘What support would help you make the changes?’
And when I’m coaching someone these days, I’ll mention the changes we need to make and often, at the same time, ask those questions.
If you or one of your team could do with some help, feel free to reply to this email.

And a happy Easter to all of you and if you are taking the extended break, as I am, I wish you much rest and refreshment.
