Happy places
This ocean view is one of my partner’s happy places. She takes herself and our dog there at the end of most days, enjoying tranquil waters and the fading light.
And this is one of my happy places: Yarraville Village in Melbourne, where I have spent much of my time this year; sometimes quiet, sometimes teeming with life.
These places represent a full stop, late in the afternoon. The day’s story has mostly been written with just a few lines left to unfold before bedtime. Beyond the inspiration and sense of reward they bring, these places provide a comforting structure to the story of our daily lives.
I trust that over the New Year break, you get the space and time to visit and enjoy your happy places; perhaps discover some new ones too. May they refresh and inspire you with new insights and energy for the year ahead.
And lastly, thank you so much for keeping me company here this year and for being such an important part of my wider community. I will be back with weekly posts in mid-January but may drop some random ones in the meantime.
So from our happy places to yours, we wish you all the best, however you celebrate the season.
Ray
