Apricity
Finding warmth when things are cold
I came across this rarely used word, Apricity, which, from its Latin root, means warmed by the sun. It was later used to indicate the warmth of the winter sun.
It got me thinking about how, when things are cold, we gravitate to the sunny spots, whether unintentionally or purposefully. We find comfort in wintry conditions by seeking sunshine.
Our personal worlds and businesses have seasons too, and when winter arrives it’s important to find ways of accessing the winter sun by locating those activities and people that warm us and inspire us to keep moving forward, preventing the ice from settling in.
Apricity preserves hope and inspires optimism to maintain mental health. We may not be able to change the season, but we can always put ourselves in the right place to feel the warmth of the winter sun, and that choice can make all the difference.
